As you may know, our summer interns are contributing to Daily Fuel’s editorial. Today's guest blogger, Rishi, an economics student at the University of Michigan, discusses the importance of finding your own path.

Go Forth and Prosper

While growing up, we often hear we must examine what other people are doing in their lives and then implement those lessons into our own journeys. This can sometimes encourage us to follow a pre-determined path instead of creating our own. I’m lucky because my parents understand that it took me a little longer to achieve certain milestones while others may be pressured into selecting fields of study, marriage, and even starting a family before they’re ready.

Jason Hall, co-founder of Slow Roll, shares why it is much more enjoyable when you do things at your own pace. He reminds us we will learn more about ourselves, the process, and go further than if we try to follow what someone else did.

While well-meaning people may try to dictate the pace of our lives, we simply cannot let this happen. Although it helps to learn from others’ mistakes, it’s also important to distinguish those lessons from our own, working toward our goals at our own pace, creating a more enjoyable journey along the way.
