As you may know, our summer interns are contributing to Daily Fuel’s editorial. Today's guest blogger, Olta, an MBA candidate from Wayne State University, discusses happiness.

The Quest for Happiness

The quest for happiness is a never-ending cycle with different forms of pursuit. In the end, all most of us want is to be happy. However, happiness takes different forms for different people. We spend our entire life trying to define what happiness means to us. It’s a constant trial and error process with much reiteration depending on where we are in life. Currently, for me happiness is finishing my midterms. However, that is not the overarching happiness in my life.

We live in a materialistic society where matter has overpowered the mind. Do you remember the last time you went on a shopping spree to make yourself feel better? Were you even aware that you were doing that? It is very common for us to seek happiness from things because the reward is instantaneous. Unfortunately, it is short-lived. This leads to a vicious cycle of instant gratification with little substance.

As Erin Gavle, Owner of Eldorado General Store, shares in today’s video, happiness comes from within. It’s the cliché phrase our grandparents used to tell us when we were little yet it still rings true. No one is responsible for your happiness but you. Thus, spend some time to redefine it to better serve your needs and dreams. Gavle defines freedom as happiness. What does happiness mean to you?
