As you may know, students are contributing to Daily Fuel’s editorial. Today's guest blogger, Christian, a student at Emerson College, ponders the importance of collaboration.

A Taste of Togetherness

Any corporate executive will tell you that collaboration is imperative to success. But leave it to the founder of the world’s coolest deli to find a much cooler word for it: togetherness. No truly great achievement, be it the moon landing or a great sandwich, is the product of just one person. You need to be open-minded, comfortable with sharing credit, and willing to learn. But as Ari Weinzweig points out, togetherness is a two-way street.

Necessary as it is to be collaborative, it is equally important to find people with whom you can collaborate. Everyone’s contributions to a project will be different, but their vision should be the same. As you find yourself in positions where you must assemble a team, this is worth remembering. Surrounding yourself with people you trust and respect will result in a better, more open, more successful version of yourself in the long run.

A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust each other.
